Pegs? Nope, machine heads.

I searched for a long time for lightweight machine heads for my Flamenco guitars and finally found the answer in these Planetary Pegs. I will be using them on all my Flamencos in the future, and offering them as an option on my classics as well.
The name refers to the internal gearing system which is known as "planetary" because little gears orbit like planets around the drive shaft gear.
The short summary of why I like them:
~ They are lightweight, coming in at 45% lighter than the Sloane machines that I usually use. This makes it easier to hold the guitar in Flamenco position.
~ They tune easily, and hold their settings, just like a machine head, with what is effectively a 5:1 gear ratio, due to the smaller diameter of the peg end, compared to regular machine tuners
~ They look cool ~ very traditional. Being a direct copy of an ebony viola peg, they look for all the world like an ebony peg.
~ Installation is the easiest by far of any machine tuner; drill a hole and screw them in. Tapered threads on the exterior of the peg cut matching threads in the wood of the head.
~ I'm interested in building classics with more than 6 strings, and Planetary Pegs can be installed in the head in whatever pattern is convenient.
~No maintenence is required.
